Nicosia Town Hall 1995 – Competition Entry (Highly Commended)
Located within the Venetian walls of the historic centre of Nicosia, the morphology of the design took into account the physical context of the project, sensitive to the culture and climate. The structural height was kept low maintaining the existing urban fabric.
A diagonal axis connecting the north and south side through the civic square offers the public use of the building i.e. gallery, theatre, multi-function room and sculptural garden whilst maintaining a visual link with the local area.
The use of sandstone with contemporary materials connects the building to its urban context.
