Private Residence, Ekali
2012 – In progress

Built Area: 210 m2
Client: D. Papaphylactou
Design Architect: Photiou Architects

A 210m² house for a young family in Ekali. The angular site they possessed was divided into two parts for a possible future addition of a second house.

The part of the site used eventually lies on a slope from north to south and the house was organised along this inclination. The clear orthogonal rectangle of the plan is divided into two parallel structural zones. The north zone includes all necessary horizontal and vertical movement as well as the kitchen area whilst the south hosts all the main living areas.

The house is developed in three levels. The first level the basement hosts the garage and different service and storage areas. The second level is where the kitchen and dining room are located with the sitting room and fireplace on a slightly higher level and the third level hosts the bedrooms and respective bathrooms.

The open air spaces of the house are organized around the orthogonal rectangle of the plan to the west, north and south.

The trees of the south side create a protective barrier for the summer sun and form, in combination with the fenced wall, an inviting third outdoor private area.
