Souk Development, Bahrain
2001

The evolution of the Souk has resulted in a very unique urban fabric and is a manifesto for the lifestyle of Bahrain. It defies the planning of cities in the west and does not require formal arrangements. In contrast with the structural clarity of the western city the irregularity has added much to the ideas. It is a decentralized system, where the fragmentation of the landscape has much more to do with the experience of place rather than visual association. These are the activities that gave the Souk a definition.

The key elements of our strategy involves a design morphology that adds a clear and logical system of interconnected spaces between retail space, alleyways and green space providing a network of stores, design centres and window dressing that retail requires.
