This house brings together our understanding of and commitment to the classic modern movement style and highly developed use of glass. Both internally and externally there is skilful manipulation of light and view while maintaining privacy.
The two storey dwelling opens up to terraces and down to the garden and pool level. Inside, the levels interconnect via a glass staircase, through the double height living space and down through the glass floor to the bedrooms.
The rooflight above fulfils the client’s requirements to be able to view the sky from the lower level. The bedrooms and office at this level open out to the garden and pool.
Views from the house are carefully controlled by the placement of the windows, sliding red-cedar screens and landscaping to edit out surrounding houses.
Structural glass is used extensively throughout the house, in the large rooflight, glass flooring, stair treads, balastrading and in a glass slot which runs between the main house and the front extension.
